  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup Provolone cheese slices

  • Skillet
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Place the beef chuck roast in your slow cooker.
  2. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the roast.
  3. Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the roast.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or until the beef is tender and shreds easily.
  5. Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded beef to the cooking liquid.
  6. While the beef is cooking, prepare the rolls. Mix melted butter with garlic powder.
  7. Slice the hoagie rolls in half and spread the butter mixture on the cut sides.
  8. Place the rolls, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. Top with Provolone cheese.
  9. Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. To assemble, spoon the shredded beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted roll. Place the top half of the roll on top.
  11. Serve immediately with the cooking liquid on the side for dipping.

Notes

You can strain the cooking liquid to make a clearer au jus for dipping. For a richer flavor, you can sear the beef roast before placing it in the slow cooker.
