Method
- Place the beef chuck roast in your slow cooker.
- Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the roast.
- Pour the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the roast.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or until the beef is tender and shreds easily.
- Remove the beef from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Return the shredded beef to the cooking liquid.
- While the beef is cooking, prepare the rolls. Mix melted butter with garlic powder.
- Slice the hoagie rolls in half and spread the butter mixture on the cut sides.
- Place the rolls, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. Top with Provolone cheese.
- Broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- To assemble, spoon the shredded beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted roll. Place the top half of the roll on top.
- Serve immediately with the cooking liquid on the side for dipping.
Notes
You can strain the cooking liquid to make a clearer au jus for dipping. For a richer flavor, you can sear the beef roast before placing it in the slow cooker.
