- Cook the orzo pasta according to package directions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Drain the pasta using a colander, reserving about 1/2 cup of the pasta water.
- While the orzo is cooking, heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- In a large bowl, combine the drained orzo, basil pesto, grated Parmesan cheese, and the sautéed garlic with olive oil.
- Toss everything together until the orzo is well coated with the pesto mixture. If the pasta seems dry, add a little of the reserved pasta water, a tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add toasted pine nuts or cherry tomatoes to the dish. You can also add cooked chicken or shrimp for a more substantial meal.
